6: Demeter: Goddess of Agriculture

I am Demeter, goddess of agriculture, surrounded by sheaves of grain and the sacred serpent-drawn chariot of Triptolemus. When my daughter Persephone is taken to the underworld, I let the fields wither in grief until her return brings the spring. Hecate’s torches light my search through the world of men and gods. Through me, the earth learns both hunger and renewal.
