5: NEMEAN LION (Labor 1)
My first trial takes me to the valley of Nemea to slay a lion whose hide no weapon can pierce. I corner it in a cave and strangle it with my bare hands, emerging crowned in its skin. Eurystheus hides in terror, commanding that I never again bring such monsters inside the city walls. I wear the lion’s hide as armor, proof of my triumph and transformation.
