4: Hera: Goddess of Marriage
I am Hera, goddess of marriage and childbirth, adorned with a peacock whose feathers bear the eyes of Argus, my faithful servant. In one hand I hold a lotus scepter, in the other a pomegranate that marks fertility and rule. Two vipers and the Nemean lion lie near my feet, reminders of the vengeance I send against Zeus’s illegitimate children. Though feared for my wrath, I am also honored in temples and festivals dedicated to the sanctity of womanhood.
