6: THE GIFTS OF THE GODS

The Hesperides welcome me into their golden garden, watched by the coiled serpent Ladon beneath the setting sun. From their hands I receive winged sandals for flight, Hades’ helmet of invisibility, and the shining shield of Athena. Hermes grants me his curved sword of adamantine, light as wind yet stronger than iron. Armed with the gods’ gifts, I soar beyond the edge of Oceanus toward the land of the Gorgons.
