8: THE FOOT RACE

When I return to Arcadia, my father insists I marry, but I vow to wed only a man who can outrun me. Suitors fall one by one until Hippomenes arrives with golden apples gifted by Aphrodite. As we race, he casts the apples behind him, and their shining beauty slows my stride. He wins by cunning, not strength, and claims my hand while I sense the gods still watch.
